Macadamia Oil

Macadamia integrifolia · INCI: Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil

A lightweight, fast-absorbing seed oil grown in South Africa, rich in omega-7 and known for nourishing without heaviness.

What is macadamia oil?

Macadamia oil is a light, silky seed oil pressed from the kernels of the macadamia tree. It is one of the most skin-compatible plant oils in cosmetic use, and the most abundant botanical oil in both Maru body oils.

The oil is rich in oleic acid and notably high in palmitoleic acid, an omega-7 fatty acid that is naturally present in skin's own oils. That similarity is what gives macadamia oil its famously comfortable, skin-like feel.

In skincare, macadamia oil is valued for absorbing quickly and nourishing without heaviness, which is why it forms the fast-absorbing base of the Maru range.

Macadamia Oil benefits for skin

  • Fast-absorbing. A light, silky oil that sinks into skin quickly without a greasy residue.
  • Skin-compatible. High in palmitoleic acid (omega-7), a fatty acid naturally found in skin's own oils, for a comfortable, skin-like feel.
  • Nourishing without heaviness. Rich in oleic acid, so it helps soften and replenish skin while staying lightweight.
  • Smoothing. Leaves skin feeling smooth, supple and conditioned after each use.
  • Suited to daily use. Gentle, lightweight character that works morning and evening, all year round.

South African provenance

The macadamia tree is native to Australia, and we say so plainly: it is not a desert botanical. It has, however, found a second home in South Africa, which has grown into one of the world's largest producers of macadamias, with orchards across the country's subtropical regions. Maru uses South African macadamia oil, cold-pressed from locally grown kernels.

How Maru uses macadamia oil

Macadamia oil is the most abundant botanical oil in both Desert Rain and Desert Sunrise, forming the fast-absorbing base that carries the richer desert botanicals like marula, baobab and ximenia.

Its lightweight, skin-like feel is a big part of why Maru body oils absorb quickly and leave no greasy residue. We source it from South African growers, keeping the whole formula close to home.
